NA body defers most bills moved by govt

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Tuesday deferred most of the government’s bills presented to it for discussion.

The committee observed the bills needed some amendments and sought to present the amended bills in its next meeting.

The committee, however, cleared the bill introduced by MNA Mohsin Dawar seeking allocation of seats in National and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies and recommended to table it before the lower house.

The Committee considered the Bill ‘The Muslim Family Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2019 (Section 4) (government bill)’.

After detailed deliberations the committee deferred the bill with the observations that the bill required minor changes hence the ministry shall redraft it and place before the committee in its next meeting.

The committee considered ‘The Muslim Family Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2019 (Section 7) (government bill)’ and deferred the bill with observations that Chairman Council of Islamic Ideology shall be requested to attend the next meeting.

The committee considered the bill ‘The Letters of Administration and Succession Certificate Bill, 2019 (government bill)’ and deferred it with the observations that minor changes are required in the bill hence the ministry shall redraft the same and place before the committee in its next meeting.

Due to paucity of time the Committee remained unable to consider the bills The Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights Bill, 2019 (government bill); The Whistleblower Protection and Vigilance Commission Bill, 2019 (government bill); The Constitution (amendment) Bill, 2019 (amendment in Article 1, 51, 59, 106, 154, 175A, 198 and 218) (Moved by Rana Sanaullah Khan, MNA); and The Legal Practitioner and Bar Councils (amendment) Bill,2018 (Moved by Ms Aliya Kamran)” hence the same are deferred till its next meeting.

The Committee considered the bill, ‘The Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2019 (amendment in Article 51 and 106) (moved by Mr. Mohsin Dawar, MNA)’. After detailed deliberations the committee recommended with majority that the bill as amended by the committee may be passed by the assembly.
