HYDERABAD, July 13: People’s Party Parliamentarians MNA Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur on Wednesday condemned demolition of shops and restaurants along the Super Highway in Nooriabad by the Jamshoro administration and police and termed it political victimization. He was talking to journalists at a hunger strike camp set up by Manjhand Shehri Ittehad president Mohammad Saleh Memon against shifting of Manjhand taluka offices to Sann.
Mr Talpur said people had suffered a loss of Rs10 billion due to demolition of their properties.
He said he had informed the Sindh chief secretary about excesses unleashed against PPP supporters.
He said he would also inform the Chief Election Commissioner about transfer of civil servants after the announcement of the election schedule. He said the Election Commission had banned transfers and postings of civil servants after the announcement of the election schedule but the Sindh government was continuing with the transfers and postings of officers with the sole purpose of victimizing PPP supporters.
Expressing solidarity with Mr Memon, Mr Talpur also observed a token hunger strike.
He said when the government itself had raised the status of Manjhand to taluka level, there was no reason to shift taluka offices to Sann. He warned the DCO Jamshoro that if the offices of the taluka were not re-shifted to the taluka headquarters, the consequences would be serious.
Referring to the Nooriabad incident, he alleged that properties of PPP supporters had been demolished because they had refused to join the Pakistan Muslim League. He claimed that at least 20 affected people had ownership documents of properties.
He demanded that President Gen Pervez Musharraf should take notice of the excesses against PPP supporters.
He said that under the orders of the high command of the party, a cell had been set up at Bilawal House to compile a list of election malpractice and incidents of excesses against PPP activists.
Meanwhile, Mr Memon said he would commit self-immolation on July 25 if the offices were not shifted back to the taluka headquarters.
