Man arrested in mysterious manner
PESHAWAR, July 11: Personnel of a security agency on Monday arrested a person near a five-star hotel on the Khyber road, eyewitnesses told Dawn. Two police officers on duty at the Judicial Complex were beaten up by three plain-cloth personnel when they tried to stop them from dragging a man out of his car, the eyewitnesses added. They said that three security personnel stopped the car near the hotel, dragged the man out and after covering his face with a piece of black cloth forced him into another official vehicle.
A federal intelligence agency in recent months had arrested several Al Qaeda and Taliban suspects and in most of the arrests, the intelligence agency is assisted by the Criminal Investigation Agency (CID).
However, sources in the CID denied arresting anyone from the Khyber road.
Meanwhile, lawyer and local leader of the Pakistan Muslim League Muazzam Butt and senior advocate Nisar Mohammad Khan, who had witnessed everything, lodged a protest with the East-Cantonment police station.
They said in their complaint that a case of harassment may be registered and legal action be taken against the armed men. They also urged police high-ups to initiate a departmental proceedings against the policemen for not performing their duties properly.
KILLED: Rivalry claimed two lives on Sunday night in Mewara village of Daudzai in the city suburbs, police officials said.
Ms Kharay, widow of Sehran, registered a case with Daudzai police station, alleging that her nephew Mameed, son of Zewar Shah, was killed by Saidan Shah, Rehman Shah, Atlas Khan and their accomplices at the residence of Ajab Khan.
She said that Mameed was killed as he was a close friend of one Afsar Ali, who had old rivalry with the accused.
However, Ms Nasreen, widow of Amanullah, in her counter FIR alleged that her brother-in-law Saeedullah, son of Atlas Khan, was killed by Zewar Shah and Afsar Ali near their residence in the village.
SEARCH: The police on Monday continued their search for the highway robbers, who killed the station house officer of the Mattani police station, Gohar Zaman, two days ago.
According to the police they were using khojis (detectives) and dogs to track down the killers.
