HYDERABAD, July 9: Renowned scholar Dr Nabi Bux Khan Baloch has said that in addition to promotion of literature and culture of Sindh, the Bhitshah Cultural Centre should also help promote tourism because the centre is ideally located. He was speaking at a seminar on the occasion of golden jubilee celebrations of the Bhitshah Cultural Centre at the Sindh Museum here on Friday.

Dr Baloch said Hala and Mansoora were the centres of artisans which could also become a centre of tourism if the Bhitshah Cultural Centre played its role in this regard.

Sindh Minister for Culture and Tourism Shabbir Ahmad Qaimkhani said the purpose of the golden jubilee celebrations was to highlight services rendered by the Bhitshah Cultural Centre during the last 50 years and also to acknowledge services of people associated with the centre.

He said the government intended to hold cultural programmes in every district.

Dr G. A. Allana said the government had provided huge funds for the Bhittai Centre of Excellence but, he alleged, the amount had disappeared after the advent of district governments. He said the centre should be revived and children’s fairs and other cultural programmes be held at Bhitshah.

Zulqarnain Shah Azad Qazi, Naseer Mirza, Imdad Hussaini, Nawaz Ali Shauq and Abdul Jabbar Junejo read papers.

Indian Sindhi writers Hari Motwani, Hero Thakar and Nand Chugani also attended the seminar. On Thursday night, an Urdu-Sindhi Mushaira and Raag Rehan were also held at the cultural centre.
