BAHAWALPUR: A new building of the railway station having an estimated cost of Rs200 million is expected to be ready by June.

Officials of the NLC and Nespak told Dawn during a visit to the building that work was in full swing. The three-storey building (including basement) was almost complete and now the electrification and woodwork was being carried out.

Besides, work on the construction of five domes on the top of the building depicting Islamic culture of the defunct Bahawalpur State time near completion.

Divisional Commercial Officer/Public Relations Officer (PRO) Ms Nabila Aslam of the Multan Pakistan Railway (PR) Division told Dawn over mobile phone that it was expected that the contractor would hand over the building to the Pakistan Railways in June. She expressed the hope that with the handing over of the state-of-the-art building to the PR, it would become operational and offer modern facilities of ticketing system and train timings.

The project has missed deadline two times in the past.

TEACHER’S MURDER: District Police Officer (DPO) Amir Taimur Buzdar on Saturday announced the constitution of a special police team to investigate the murder case of a Sadiq Egerton (S.E) College teacher by a student a couple of days ago.

According to the DPO’s Public Relations Officer Umar Saleem the investigation team would be headed by investigation wing SP Saleem Khan Niazi.

The team has been directed to investigate whether the suspect, Khatib Hussain, who murdered his teacher Prof Khalid Hamead had affiliation with any political or religious group, party or had any accomplices in the crime.

The team has been asked to complete the investigation at the earliest.

The suspect had attacked his teacher in the college staff room with a knife.

He later alleged that the victim was promoting obscenity by holding a mixed-gender welcome party at the college.

A court had on Thursday remanded the suspect booked under sections 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code in police custody for 15 days till April 4.
