Student kidnapped for Rs2.5m ransom

GUJRANWALA, July 8: A first year student of the Government College, Rawalpindi, was kidnapped for Rs2.5 million ransom in Baghbanpura here on Friday. Reports said that Zain Warraich, the son of Rawalpindi sessions court superintendent Muhammad Hasnain (retired), had come to meet his uncle Muhammad Zulqarnain in Gujranwala. He was on his way home from market when unidentified men kidnapped him and took him away to some unknown place. Later, they rang his heirs and demanded Rs2.5 million for his release.

Baghbanpura police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating.

It is learnt that the kidnapped student is the nephew of the Lahore High Court registrar, while district and sessions judge has directed DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq to get recovered the student immediately.

CAUGHT: Around half a dozen landlords were caught red-handed while stealing canal water in Naushera Virkan and Tetley on Friday.

Reports said that a joint team of the irrigation and police raided there and arrested the accused.

Police have registered separate cases against the accused.
