LAKKI MARWAT, July 4: The local chapter of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) has called off its plan to hold a demonstration and block a highway but warned that it would protest on the roads if the Peshawar Electricity Supply Company did not fulfil its promise of installing a high voltage transformer at the Tajazai grid station. Provincial JUI Amir MNA Maulana Amanullah Khan said at a press conference on Monday that the Pesco chief executive had held out the assurance through Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani and District Coordination Officer Kifayatullah Khan that the transformer would be installed in accordance with the given timeframe.

District JUI Amir Maulana Abdul Rahim, Naib Amir Maulana Ahmad Shah Qureshi, Information Secretary Sabz Ali Khan Naveed and other party leaders were also present at the press conference.

The MNA urged the provincial government to announce a development package and allocate funds for water supply schemes, including construction of small dams, in the district to overcome water shortage.

He called upon the centre to begin construction of the Kurram Tangi dam and asked the provincial government to provide bulldozers and other resources for levelling land in the west of the district.

He said the district and the province could be made self-sufficient in the production of wheat and gram by bringing barren land under cultivation.

He said the villages and hamlets in Mahaal Panyala area would soon get electricity supply.—Correspondent
