ISLAMABAD, June 29: The new Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, will take the oath of office on Thursday at the Aiwan-i-Sadr. President Gen Pervez Musharraf will administer the oath to the 20th chief justice of the country and the first judge from Balochistan to hold the highest judicial post.
Justice Chaudhry served as judge of the Balochistan High Court from Nov 6, 1990 to April 21, 1999, and was the chief justice in the province from April 22, 1999 to Feb 3, 2000. He was appointed judge of the Supreme Court on Feb 4, 2000.
The outgoing Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui, retired on Wednesday after superannuation. —APP
