Rs5 note to become trash on Friday

LAHORE, June 29: The burgundy coloured Rs5 note is all set to become a thing of the past on July 1 (Friday) after being replaced by small, solid and tingling coin of same denomination.

According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) sources, the Rs5 note will cease to be a legal tender after June 30 (tomorrow).

This is the third currency note being replaced by coins in a few years after those of Re1 and Rs2.

Similarly, a number of coins — one paisa, two paisa, five paisa, ten paisa, 25 paisa and 50 paisa which were introduced in 1940s,1950s and 1960s, have already gone behind the pal of the past.

The SBP sources said that the currency notes of Rs20 and Rs5,000 denominations will be issued within this year.—APP
