Call for curbing use of ice drug among youth

MARDAN: Speakers at a programme held here the other day called for concerted efforts to curb the increasing use of ice drug among youth, particularly students.

The awareness programme was held at the Bacha Khan Medical College Mardan, where district police officer Sajjad Khan was the chief guest.

On the occasion, Mr Khan said police were committed to protecting students, including boys and girls, from ice drug to save their future.

He said use of ice drug in educational institutions was worrisome.

“Students are the country’s future, and thus they should avoid being addicted to ice and other drugs,” he stressed.

The DPO said anti-social elements were trying to trap youth, especially students, into getting addicted to ice drug. He said joint efforts were needed to combat such a menace.

The college’s dean Dr Mohammad Israr said they were ready to play their role in creating awareness regarding bad effects of ice drug among citizens in general and students in particular.

He stressed that both parents and teachers had to deliver their responsibilities with honesty regarding future of youths.

Dr Jameel, another speaker, urged students to focus on their studies and avoid using ice and other drugs for the sake of serving their families as well as the nation.

He said different awareness programmes and activities should be held at school, college, and university levels with the purpose to create awareness among students about lethal effects of ice drug.

Dr Sardar Khan noted that society would be responsible if it did not put up concerted efforts to protect students and youths from falling prey to ice drug.
