Pervaiz orders new water supply system

LAHORE, June 29: Taking stock of deaths caused by the contaminated water consumption in a locality of the city district, the chief minister has ordered replacement of water supply and sewer lines there. Presiding over a meeting of ministers, secretaries, district nazim and Wasa officials here on Wednesday, Pervaiz Elahi said the government would bear all expenses of repairs of water supply and sewerage system of the area.

At least five deaths had been reported in Shafiqabad on Tuesday because of gastroenteritis apparently caused by the supply of contaminated water. Three more deaths were reported on Wednesday.

The chief minister also directed the provision of medical facilities and launching a vaccination campaign by setting up medical camps in the area as a precautionary measure.

The Wasa authorities were asked to conduct a survey of all streets to ensure that no broken or seeping sewer pipe was left unattended.
