RAWALPINDI, Jan 11: The Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi bench, on Friday disposed of a habeas corpus petition after the recovery of a 14-year-old boy from Race Course Police Post, indicating that the court might direct registration of an FIR against policemen who detained him for four days.

Justice Saeed Akhtar had sent a bailiff to recover the boy, Amir Shahzad, who was allegedly detained there without the registration of any case.

The SHO and in charge of the police post were present in the court on Friday and took the plea that the boy was arrested as he was in possession of a stolen bicycle.

The RA Bazaar police station produced a copy of the FIR, according to which Amir Shahzad had been booked under section 411 on the morning of Thursday.

The boy was recovered from illegal detention of Race Course Police Post at around 2pm by the bailiff.

The bailiff informed that when he raided the Police Post, there was no case against the boy.

Justice Saeed Akhtar observed that the case registered by the police was fake and he was considering to order registration of cases against them.

Advocate Abdul Qayyum Tarazi informed the court that Amir Shahzad, son a labourer, Amanat Ali, was playing cricket with his friend when a ball hit a policeman, Shahbaz, who was passing by.

The enraged policeman brought the boys to the police station and detained them. The parents of the other boy got him released after paying Rs20,000, the counsel said.

Amanat Ali, being a poor man, could not arrange Rs20,000, but, managed to pay Rs7,000 to the policemen, who demanded that his son would be released only after the full payment of Rs20,000.

A court official announced that the petition had been disposed of and a detail order would be available on Monday.
