SIALKOT: Sikhs have welcomed the retrieval of five marlas of Gurudawara Babey Di Beri in Sialkot, which had been illegally occupied by local influential people for the last six decades in Sialkot.

Local Sikh community leader Sardar Jaskaran Singh Sidhu said he was grateful to the district administration of Sialkot and the Punjab government for the retrieval of the land and removal of illegal structures from there. He said they would expand Gurudawara building on the retrieved land.

Mr Sidhu added the Sikh community was playing a pivotal role in the national development.

Deputy Commissioner Dr Syed Bilal Haider visited the historical Gurudawara Babey Di Beri in Sialkot.

He ordered Additional Deputy Commissioner (revenue) Sadia Mehar to ensure early removal of other encroachments around this Gurudawara as well.

succumb to burns: A newly-wed couple succumbed to burns on Thursday -- a week after their room caught fire on wedding day in Green Wood Street area.

A number of people attended the funeral of Adnan and his bride Yusra.

They had been admitted to the Govt Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital after they were burnt owing to a fire caused by gas leakage.

In another incident, labourer Shahzad died due to suffocation and his four children suffered burns in a fire at their home at a village in Shakargarh.

ARRESTED: The police arrested on Thursday eight people for selling, buying and flying kites in various parts of the Sialkot district.

The arrested people include Khalid, Shehzad, Luqman, Nasir, Imran, Iqbal and Naseer.
