MIRPURKHAS, Jan 11: There is an acute shortage of drinking water in the district, following closure of the Nara canal for annual desilting.

Before the closure, a sudden fall in the level of water was being witnessed at the Nara canal since the last two weeks.

Authorities of the public health engineering department have a fixed schedule for supplying water to the citizens.

People were facing many problems due to the shortage of water.

Water in the water reservoirs of the public health department in Jhuddo, Naokot, Digri and Mirwah was fast approaching the zero level.

Hundreds of villages have been deprived of drinking water as there was no place for storing water.

In Mirpurkhas town, citizens were facing great hardships as water was being supplied for extremely short periods from the water supply scheme phase I, II and III.

The residents of many areas including Pak Colony, Ghausia Colony, Rajar Colony, Mir Colony, Adam Town, Baloch Para, Lalchandabad, Mir Bachayo Colony, Walkart, and Satellite Town have complained regarding the shortage of water.

CASE LODGED: On the directives of Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit, a case has been lodged with Khipro police the other day.

The complainant, Leemo Kolhi, resident of village Madah, taluka Khipro, and peasant of landlord Qazi Faiz Mohammad Rajar, alleged that about three months ago Haji Rehmat Ali, Manzoor, Fateh Mohammad, Ghulam Rasool, Sher Muhammad and Ghulam Hussain, all by caste Arain, armed with sophisticated weapons, entered his house and forcibly took away two bullocks and ten goats.

LIQUOR: The Town police impounded a car at Umerkot road near village Moulvi Siddique Panhwar the other day and recovered 18 bottles of Indian liquor.
