KOHAT, June 28: Social circles of the Shakardarra town in the Kohat district have warned of a ‘jail bharo’ campaign in case supply of natural gas to local population is delayed further.
The warning came when a representative delegation of the Shakardarra town, comprising Imtiaz Ahmed Qureshi, Umar Khitab, Riazur Rehman and others, met Mian Nisar Gul Kakakhel, member of the NWFP assembly, on Tuesday.
The gas supply from the Shakardarra oilfields started on the commercial basis in July last year, but residential areas have not been provided with the facility yet.
Riots erupted at Gurguri in the Karak district and Shakardarra last year where angry people, including women and children, attacked the oilfields and damaged the property.
Meanwhile, the Khattak Ittehad also demanded early provision of the facility to the Karak district as promised by Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani last year.
The Khattak Ittehad was formed two years ago to press the government for the provision of natural gas to local population on a priority basis after gas and oil reservoirs were discovered in Makori and Gurguri areas of the district.
