PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party has urged Prime Minister Imran Khan to avoid what it said ‘influencing’ the National Accountability Bureau against his political rivals and fulfill the commitments made during the election campaign, otherwise the people will not remain silent and come to the streets against his government.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, PPP provincial president Mohammad Humayun Khan said the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leadership had made tall claims during the election campaign to provide jobs and houses to the needy people, but it forgot the promises when came to power. He said the government would have devised a concrete plan during its first 100 days if it was really serious with its election slogans.
“If the prime minister is really sincere to hold the corrupt people accountable he should start the process from his home instead of targeting the political opponents,” the PPP leader said and added that his party leadership could not be frightened through NAB notices.
Humayun Khan said the opposition parties did not need to point out weaknesses of the government as Prime Minister Imran Khan himself had hinted at holding of early elections in the country. He said the sacrifices of PPP were live example of its determination to face challenges during different regimes. He held the government responsible for the prevailing uncertain situation due to the unprecedented price hike and increasing unemployment.
The PPP leader said the country was facing worst kind of economic crisis but the government was unable to frame a concrete economic policy, adding the rulers had the only option to bow before the International Monitory Fund and World Bank for seeking loans with high interests which would further increase the financial burden on every citizen.
He advised the government to avoid defaming the politicians, otherwise the people in power would have to face consequences and such practices might weaken the democratic process.
The country’s affairs, he said could not be run through ordinances, and asked the government to focus on legislation in coordination with the opposition parties. If Imran Khan does not change his attitude towards the opposition he will always be called a ‘selected PM in the history,” warned Humayun Khan.
