Colombo to host 2006 South Asian Games
ISLAMABAD, June 24: The 10th South Asian Games will be held at Colombo (Sri Lanka) from April 18 to 28 next year and will feature 180 events in 19 disciplines. The dates and the number of events were decided at the 34th Executive Committee meeting of South Asian Sports Council held at Colombo on Thursday.
A two-member delegation represented Pakistan at the meeting— comprising acting secretary general of Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), Abdul Khaliq Khan and Director General of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), Brig. Arif Mehmud Siddiqui.
The competitions in the 10th South Asian Games will be held in archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, cycling, football, kabaddi, karate-do, judo, rowing, shooting, squash, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu.
The women events will take place in the disciplines of athletics, badminton, karate-do, judo, shooting, squash, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball while badminton and table tennis will also have one mixed event each.
As such, there will be 126 gold medals in men’s events, 52 in women’s competitions and 2 in mixed category.—APP
