LAHORE, June 23: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has said the Punjab will be made the hub of information technology. He was speaking at a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony between the Bank of Punjab and the Intel Pakistan Corporation held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat here on Thursday.

The chief minister said under the Punjab PC Programme, computers on concessional rates would be provided to government employees, teachers, students and people on an affordable monthly instalments of Rs542.

Free computer training would also be provided to the people in order to increase computer literacy which was key to success in the present digital era, he said.

He said various projects were being implemented to promote information technology in the province. A sum of Rs1 billion had been allocated in the budget to set up an information technology park in Lahore.

Latest IT facilities would be made available in the park which would not only increase foreign investment but would also generate employment opportunities.

Completion of the project to computerize land revenue record would result in elimination of land disputes, he said. This would also enable land owners get loans from financial institutions for the construction of houses.

He said the new system of police patrol posts would also be computerized completely.

Punjab Information Technology Board chairman Amin Sheikh and Bank of Punjab managing director Hamesh Khan also spoke at the ceremony.
