School land under illegal occupation

SAHIWAL: The government has yet to retrieve one kanal land of the Government Girls’ High School, 110/7-R, from the occupation of local residents Nasir Mahmood and Zulfiqar Ali. Dawn learned the land has been disputed for years.

Chichawatni Assistant Commissioner Abid Kalyar visited the school on November 20 and checked the site and land record. Villagers say in 2011, the revenue department ordered its retrieval under section 32 of the Colonization of Government Land Act, V, 1912.

Earlier, Nasir and Zulifqar got stay order from a senior civil judge court that too was dismissed by court in 2015. The three and a half acres school has 950 students and 30 teachers. The school has no boundary wall since its inception 60 years ago. After attack on the Peshawar Army Public School in 2014, the local educational administration demarcated the land for boundary wall. Those days, Nasir and his brother Zulfiqar extended their animal farm and house fence to the disputed land.

School Headmistress Ms Saima, also confirmed the occupation of the land. Villagers demanded that the chief minister get the school land vacated.
