FAISALABAD, June 22: Doctors, para-medical staff and teaching staff of the Allied Hospital observed a complete strike on Wednesday against the government failure to appoint doctors on permanent basis instead of contractual system.

They held a demonstration outside the emergency ward. They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands. They marched through the wards of the hospital and refused to perform their duties.

Their leaders said the government had promised to appoint doctors on permanent basis. Instead of honouring its commitment, the government extended their contact, they added.

They demanded that the Punjab government should appoint doctors through the Public Service Commission.

They said they had met health minister and other high ups for the acceptance of their demands but all their efforts proved futile.

They threatened that they would stage demonstration on roads and block traffic if the government failed to respond positively to their demands.

Meanwhile, outdoor patients faced hardships due to the strike of the doctors. Some of the old patients who had come from far-flung areas, with tears in their eyes, condemned doctors.
