Sindhi films

APROPOS the news report ‘Syed Noor considers producing Sindhi film, if supported’ (Oct 18). Ekta was the first Sindhi film produced in 1940, while the first Pakistani Sindhi film was Umar Marvi in 1956.This was followed by the blockbuster Abaana in 1958.

Sindhi films continued enthralling cinema fans till the late ‘90s. Compromising on quality and ignoring Sindhi culture are the two factors resulting in their decline. Ardent lovers of Sindhi movies wish to see the golden era of Sindhi movies return. Syed Noor’s desire to produce a Sindhi film is laudable. Given his impressive track record in producing quality films, a film producer of his stature will be a boon for the struggling Sindhi film industry. Sindhi intellectuals, poets, writers, and actors must extend a helping hand to him. Legendary actor, Mustafa Qureshi, can play an important part.
