LAHORE: The University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Friday issued the first selection list of candidates admitted to MBBS and BDS programmes in public sector medical and dental colleges of Punjab for the new session.
This year, the merit for MBBS was approximately 89.15 per cent and that for BDS 89pc.
The King Edward Medical University remained the top choice of institution for the candidates whose merit was 92.5pc. The merit for Allama Iqbal Medical College Lahore was 91.5pc, Services Institute of Medical Sciences Lahore 91pc, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Medical and Dental College Lahore 90.7pc, Ameeruddin Medical College Lahore 90.2pc, Nishtar Medical University Multan 90.2pc, Fatima Jinnah Medical University Lahore 901pc, Rawalpindi Medical University 89.8pc, Faisalabad Medical University 89.8pc, Gujranwala Medical College 89.6pc, Quaid-i-Azam Medical College Bahawalpur 89.5pc, Sargodha Medical College 89.4pc, Khawaja Mohammad Safdar Medical College Sialkot 89.4pc, Sahiwal Medical College 89.3pc, Nawaz Sharif Medical College Gujrat 89.2pc, Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan 89.2pc and DG Khan Medical College 89.1pc.
For the BDS programme, the merit for de’Montmorency College of Dentistry Lahore was 89.1pc, Nishtar Institute of Dentistry Multan 89pc and Dental Section Faisalabad Medical University also 89pc.
For reciprocal seats, the merit of Khyber Medical College Peshawar was 89.8pc, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College Mirpur 89.2pc, Azad Jammu Kashmir Medical College Muzaffarabad 89.2pc, Poonch Medical College Rawlakot 89.1pc and for Bolan Medical College Quetta 89.1pc. For 76 seats reserved for children of overseas Pakistanis/dual nationality holders, the merit was 89pc. For disabled candidates, the merit remained 77.3pc.
For admission against 61 seats reserved for students from six under-developed districts, the merit was 89pc for Layyah, 88.8pc Lodhran, 89pc Muzaffargarh, 88.5pc Bhakkar, 89pc Rajanpur (settled area), 79.6pc Rajanpur (tribal area), DG Khan (settled area) 89pc and DG Khan (tribal area) 86.7pc.
The merit has been calculated as per the formula of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) -- 10pc of matriculation, 40pc intermediate and 50pc of entrance test marks. Only those candidates who secured 85pc or above aggregate marks as per the PMDC formula were eligible to apply for admission on open merit basis this year.
The candidates applied for admission against 3,197 open merit, 61 under-developed districts, 76 reserved seats for children of overseas Pakistanis/dual nationality holders, and 20 disabled candidate seats to 17 public sector medical and three dental colleges of the province.
The selected candidates will be issued letters by the respective colleges. Classes will commence from Nov 19.
