SHO injured in attack on police van

KARAK: Station House Officer of Shah Saleem police station, Saeed Khan, sustained bullet injuries when unknown miscreants attacked a police patrol van in Dag Banda area of Takht-i-Nusrati tehsil here late on Saturday night.

Police sources said that a police party, headed by SHO Saeed Khan, was on routine patrol in the area when unknown persons opened indiscriminate fire at the police van in Dag Banda area. The police retaliated the fire, but the miscreants escaped in the darkness.

As a result of firing, SHO Saeed Khan sustained bullets injuries, while other police personnel in the van remained safe. He was admitted to the district headquarters hospital, Karak, where doctors said he was out of danger. Soon after the incident, the police launched a search operation in the area, but no arrest was made till Sunday evening.

The police registered an FIR of the incident in Shah Saleem police station against unidentified persons and have started investigations.

TRANSPORT FARES: The civil society and traders on Sunday demanded of the district administration here to fix new transport fares in the light of recent surge in petroleum prices. They condemned the unilateral increase in fares by the transporters on local and inter-district routes.

The demand came in a joint meeting of Khattak Ittehad and Anjuman-i-Tajiran, Karak city, held here with KI president Khursheed Sultan in the chair. The meeting expressed concern over the unprecedented increase in oil prices and said that the district administration had failed to check the unlawful increase in the fares.

The participants asked the relevant authorities to call an immediate meeting of the transporters and fix new fares for local and inter-district routes in the light of recent increase in oil prices. The meeting also demanded of the government to cut oil prices after its reduction in international market.
