Tahira Jalib case: LHC sets aside EXEN’s suspension

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday set aside the suspension of an EXEN of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) in a matter of overbilling to the daughter of the late Habib Jalib.

EXEN Basharat had challenged his suspension through a writ petition for being a violation of fundamental rights.

His counsel, Amir Saeed Rawn, argued before the court that the Lesco chief suspended the petitioner without conducting any inquiry into the alleged matter of hefty bill sent to Tahira Jalib. He pointed out that Ms Jalib had filed a complaint against sub-divisional officer concerned but the respondent authority also took action against the petitioner beyond any logic.

The counsel asked the court to set aside the suspension of the petitioner for being unlawful.

Justice Ali Baqar Najafi suspended the impugned decision and sought a reply from the Lesco chief by Nov 20.

Lesco had sent electricity bill amounting to Rs75,000 to Ms Jalib. She lives in a 2.5-marla house of Mustafa Town with her sisters and their children. The Lesco chief had taken notice of the matter and ordered an inquiry against the officials.

WARRANTS: An anti-terrorism court on Friday issued non-bailable arrest warrants of PML-N MPA Saiful Malook Khokhar and his brother Malik Shafi Khokhar for not appearing before the court to record their evidence in murder case of latter’s son.

The court issued the warrants after both brothers failed to turn up despite repeated summons for their testimony. ATC judge Abdul Qayyum directed the Johar Town police to produce them on Saturday (today).

Imran Shafi Khokhar, nephew of the MPA, was murdered during an armed clash with rivals at a wedding ceremony. Later, one of the prime suspects of the murder, Aslam Bhatti, was also gunned down near the sessions court.
