NOWSHERA, June 17: Residents of Risalpur and adjoining villages on Friday blocked the Mardan-Nowshera Road to protest against the killing of two brothers and demanded the arrest of attackers.

People took to the road after the funeral of the victims in the morning and blocked it. They were chanting slogans. They criticized the government and the police for what they called the worsening law and order situation in the Nowshera district. On Thursday, sources said, unidentified persons called homoeo-physician Farhad from a PCO and asked him to come to the clinic and check their patient.

As Farhad came out of his house, assailants opened fire at him. Injured, Farhad ran and got back in his home, but he died soon. Ayaz, his brother, chased the attackers who also shot him dead near a local imambargah.

Witnesses said the assailants had fled in the presence of policemen standing guard at the imambargah. The protesters asked the government to take action against the policemen for their failure in capturing the fleeing accused.

The police have arrested the PCO owner and started investigation.
