SUKKUR, June 17: Three bandits and a villager were killed and two others injured in an encounter between police and the bandits in Mohammad Pur Village in the jurisdiction of Ghemro police station, district Ghotki, on Friday night.

Police claimed that the bandits Ghulam Nabi Chachar, his brother Ghulam Mohammad Chachar and his accomplice Arif alias Teddy Chachar were sitting at a hotel, when a Lolai tribesman saw them and informed the police.

A heavy contingent of police and armed people from Lolai tribe, led by the TPO Ghotki Aslam Langah and SHO Rana Nasrullah reached the spot and asked them to surrender, who opened fire on the police.

The police returned the fire killing Ghulam Nabi Chachar, Ghulam Mohammad Chachar, Arif alias Teddy Chachar and Shah Nawaz alias Shanan Lolai.

Police also managed to arrest Qaim Chachar and another whose name was not ascertained. Both of them were injured during exchange of fire.

Police claimed to recover two motorcycles and three Kalashnikov rifles and a huge quantity of ammunition from their possession.

Govt criticized: Leaders of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam have expressed concern over price hike, unemployment and lawlessness in the country and blamed the government for it.

The party’s Sukkur chapter held a meeting here on Friday, said a press statement.

Maulana Abdul Qayoom Halejvi presided over the meeting which was attended by JUI Naib Ameer Maulana Mohammad Murad Halejvi, provincial secretary-general Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro and other party leaders.

The meeting observed that the government had failed to resolve problems of people. It said there was no relief package in the federal budget for the masses.

It also condemned a marathon race held in Lahore and efforts to send Mukhtaran Mai to the US at the behest of some NGOs.
