SIALKOT, June 16: A study about the Indian leather technology will be helpful to enhance the performance of Cleaner Production Centre (CPC) and Leather Products Development Institute (LPDI) at Sialkot. This was said by Pakistan Gloves Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PGMEA) former chairman Muhammad Anwar Butt while talking to the press here on Thursday.

He said a PGMEA delegation, comprising leather exporters from Sialkot, Karachi, Lahore and Kasur, learnt much about the advanced cleaner leather production technology and shared experience with Indian experts during the two-week long visit.

He said the delegation told the Indian experts that 30 to 40 per cent pollution had been reduced at tanneries in Sialkot after implementation of cleaner production (CP) techniques. Mr Butt said the main objective of LPDI was to provide trained and skilled manpower to the leather gloves and garments industry of Sialkot, besides enhancing productivity and upgrading quality.
