KARACHI: Robber sentenced

KARACHI, June 15: The additional district and sessions judge, East, Abrar Hussain F. Memon, sentenced a bank robber to suffer rigorous imprisonment for 10 years. Raza Khan was found guilty of having robbed Rs35,82,955 from the Sindhi Muslim Society branch of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) on Feb 21, 2003.

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs200,000 on the convict, who would have to undergo an additional one-year term in case of default on the payment.

The case was registered on the complaint of bank manager Shabbir Ahmed.

REMANDED: The judicial magistrate, East, Khalid K. Leghari, remanded two accused in the Madinatul Ilm case to police custody for interrogation in four different cases.

Accused Mufti Altaf and Bilal Farooqi were booked for possessing illegal weapons, shootout with police and attempt to murder. The JM ordered the police to produce the accused on June 18 after completing interrogation.
