UoP students threaten agitation against admin

PESHAWAR: The students of University of Peshawar have threatened to launch agitation against the administration if it fails to reduce fees and withdraw FIR against some of the students.

Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, Mutahidda Talba Mahaz chairman Bilal Khan said that students had already submitted their demands to the UoP administration and waited for the response but to no avail. He said that the members of all the unions and federations of students would stage sit-in at the university on Thursday (today) if their issues were not resolved.

“We are ready to go to jail if the administration attempts to take any action against us,” he said. He added that the students would go to any extent if action was taken against them.

Mr Khan alleged that a fake FIR was registered against the students to conceal corruption of some officials, who pushed the university to the verge of collapse. He also demanded provision of quality transport facilities on the campus.

He said that owing to politics and corruption of the university officials, the students were concerned about their future. He said that the post of provost had been vacant for the last over two years and the affairs were run through temporary staff.

He said that students were implicated in fake cases to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the university.
