KARACHI: Experts at a two-day course on urodynamics, which was inaugurated at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) on Monday, promised hope for females with incontinence and males with enlarged prostates.
Dr Rizwan Hamid, consultant urologist and clinical lead for neuro-urology, Eskinder Solomon, consultant clinical scientist at University College, London, and four SIUT faculty members led by professor of urology, Dr Manzoor Hussain, conducted the course.
Gynaecologists based in Karachi and urologists from across the country are participating in lectures and live case demonstrations especially on female patients suffering from gynaecological disorders, and male patients with dysfunction of their bladder, urethra and lower urinary tract symptoms.
Organisers said the course would also help diagnose congenital anomalies and reflux in the paediatric population.
They added that the SIUT programme was multidisciplinary with the approach of addressing urological problems of males and females in particular by the combined exposure of gynaecologists and urologists.
The modality of urodynamics is available at SIUT for many years and providing free diagnostic facility to patients.
During the course, experts said, the newer branch of urology called functional urology would be able to update urologists and gynaecologists to help hundreds of thousands of patients who come into their clinical practice.
Experts showed clinical demonstration live from the operation theatre and explained the clinical details through lectures and interactive case discussions which would also help other units acquire that sub-specialty in urology.
Over 250 urologists, gynaecologists and postgraduates attended the course offered by SIUT free of cost.
