HYDERABAD, June 14: Two scholarships will be awarded for research work, leading to PhD degrees, on the life and works of various aspects of Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi. This was decided at the second meeting of the Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi Chair, University of Sindh, held here on Monday.
Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui who is also the chief patron of the chair presided over the meeting.
The meeting was attended by Dr Kazi Khadim, Air Commodore (Rtd) Munawar Alam Siddiqui, Dr Sarfaraz Bhatti, Dr Sattar Ansari, Prof Nazir Qasmi, Shaukat Shoro, Dr Sanaullah Bhutto, Dr Habibullah Siddiqui, Dr Idrees Soomro and Dr Anwar Fagar Hakro.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the chair and also discussed ongoing research projects under the chair.
The meeting decided that to encourage and help deserving research scholars, the chair will award two scholarships to research scholars for their work leading to Ph.D degree on the life and works of Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi and also to award two gold medals to faculty top students of the faculty of arts and faculty of Islamic culture.
It appreciated progress report of the chair about publishing a book comprising editorials written by Allama Qasmi in the Al-Raheem magazine.
It decided that a biography of Allama Qasmi Sahib would be published in various languages including English and Urdu by the chair and the biography work was assigned to noted scholar Dr Idrees Soomro.
The honorary director of the chair reported that the book of editorial of Allama Sahib has been published at a cost of Rs25,000 and with excellent marketing the chair had earned Rs35,000 from the circulation of the book.
The meeting formed a three-member committee comprising Dr Idrees Soomro, Dr Anwar Fagar Hakro and Prof Nazir Qasmi to organize a seminar on the occasion of second death anniversary of Allama Qasmi to be held in December 2005.
It was also decided that a book comprising papers of scholars would be published on the occasion of the seminar and would be distributed among participants.
On the recommendation of a member Dr Idrees Soomro about collection of articles as well as preface on various books by Allama Qasmi, it was decided that these would be published in book form by the chair.
SAU: Sindh Agriculture University Vice-Chancellor Prof (Dr) Basheer Shaikh has stressed the need for not only updating the knowledge of teachers but also adopting latest methodology in teaching.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a teaching course for the second batch of the university and college teachers who will be provided training at the Receivers Centre Programme funded by the Higher Education Commission.
He advised the teachers to acquire new knowledge through internet, audio and video technology.
He urged the teachers to adopt 3-P methodology in teaching which included preparation, presentation and personality of the teacher.
