HYDERABAD, June 11: The DCO has directed deputy district officers, revenue, and Mukhtiarkars of the defunct Hyderabad district to take over the ongoing work of lining of watercourses. Presiding over a meeting regarding implementation of the National Programme for Improvement of Watercourses at his office here on Saturday, DCO Mohammad Hussain Syed expressed dissatisfaction over the progress of the lining work.

He directed revenue officers to complete lining of the targeted watercourses by June 30.

He said the federal government had reduced the number of annual targeted watercourses from 254 to 160. Therefore, he added, the work should be completed within the stipulated period.

He also directed the revenue officers to undertake field visits and resolve problems of farmers.

The DCO said the district government would take action against officials responsible for delaying the work.

Earlier, the EDO, agriculture, Shuhabuddin Siddiqui, told the meeting that lining of 15 watercourses and earth work of 106 watercourses had been completed and lining work of 54 watercourses was in progress.

He said the on-farm water management had completed formalities and now farmers’ associations of watercourses were responsible for completing lining of channels within the given time.

PROMOTIONS: The Provincial Selection Board-1 has recommended names of Saindad Khan Solangi and Mohammad Shareef Nizamani, superintending engineers (BS-19), for promotion as chief engineers (BS-20), works and services department.
