FAISALABAD, June 11: A youth of a known family of Chenabnagar, Jhang, has been rescued from kidnappers after paying Rs10 million ransom on Saturday. Information gleaned by this correspondent revealed that some people kidnapped Suleman Ahmad a fortnight ago. His father Mushtaq Ahmad and other members of the family lodged complaints with Jhang police which launched a hunt, but to no avail.
Four days later, the family received a call from the kidnappers demanding Rs10 million ransom for Suleman’s release. The family informed the Jhang police, which also sought help from Faisalabad and Toba Tek Sing police.
The callers contacted the family about 13 times and finally threatened to kill the boy if their demand was not met. On Friday night, the callers asked the boy’s father to come to a tribal area near Peshawar with the amount.
The family accordingly paid the amount to the gangsters, who freed the boy in Peshawar city.
Sources close to the family claimed that Suleman is the only son in five families of a known clan.
A senior police officer of Jhang confirmed the incident, saying the boy might have been confined to some tribal area.
