KARACHI, June 11: The paediatrics and gynaecology wards of the Lyari General Hospital, with the largest daily turnover of patients as compared to its other departments, require support for renovation and upgradation. Concerned doctors while talking to APP on Saturday said both the departments required urgent refurbishment to cater to the needs of patients belonging to the poorest segment of society.
Mentioning the extremely poor nutritional status of women and children visiting the departments, the doctors said that extreme malnutrition, reaching almost 100 per cent, was also an aspect that needed urgent redressal.
Regretting that children of the backward localities of the city were major victims of ‘nutritional negligence’, experts stressed a need for urgent provision of nutritional corners at the Lyari General Hospital.
It may not be out of context that MNAs and MPAs representing the area had taken the initiative for diverting funds allocated under the heads of MPA and MNA funds in improving facilities available at the hospital in general and both the said departments in particular.—APP
