ISLAMABAD, June 9: The government has raised the customs tariff on 16 different items by an average 50 per cent to provide protection to local industries.
The tariffs were raised through a customs notification of 2005-06 released on Thursday.
It has been proposed to raise customs duty to 60 per cent from existing 5 per cent on import of concrete-mixer lorries under HS Code (8705.4000); from 5 to 20 per cent on other (9032.1090); from 10 to 15 per cent on metal jacketed gaskets (8484.2020); 10 to 35 per cent on auto parts (7602.0010); from 25 to 35 per cent on brake linings and pads (6813.1000); from 5 to 10 per cent on worn clothing and other worn articles (6309.0000); from 5 to 15 per cent on electric blankets (6301.1000); from 5 to 7 per cent on of viscose yarn, untwisted or with a twist not exceeding 120 turns per meter (5403.3100); from 10 to 25 per cent on horsehair and horsehair waste, whether or not put up as a layer with or without supporting material (0503.0000); from 5 to 10 per cent on shelled (0802.1200); from 10 to 25 per cent on of Okara (1209.9130); from 5 to 25 per cent on other (1806.9000); from 20 to 25 per cent on of a kind used on buses, lorries or trucks (4013.1010); from 10 20 on other (4707.3090), other (4707.9090) and other (4805.9290), respectively.
