QUETTA, June 7: A division bench of Balochistan High Court has disposed of a constitutional petition after the standing counsel submitted proof that the Benefit Account Rules 2003 would apply to retired employees whether they were getting their pension periodically or had taken lump sum pension benefits.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed and Justice Akhtar Zaman Malghani observed that the petitioner’s grievances stood redressed according to the standing counsel.

The former treasury officer of the State Bank of Pakistan, Mazhar Ilyas Nagi, had filed the petition submitting that authorities at the National Savings Centre declined the pensioners benefit account under Rules of 2003 to retired government employees who had taken their lump sum pension.

The standing counsel however placed on record a photostat copy of the clarification of the law, justice and human rights division that all retired employees of federal and provincial governments would be entitled to operate the pensioners’ benefit account provided it did not exceed the limit of Rs2 million.

THREE KILLED: Three persons were killed and twelve others injured when a trailer and a passenger coach collided in the city’s suburbs on Sunday.

According to details, a Mazda coach coming from Pishin collided with a trailer near the airport on Quetta-Kuchlak road.

The dead were identified as Baz Khan, Gul Bibi and a young girl Somen Bibi. The injured were taken to Bolan Hospital Complex for treatment.
