KARACHI, June 6: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad and Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, reviewed law and order in the province and the steps being implemented in education and health sectors in two separate meetings held at the Governor’s House here on Monday. Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui, Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro, Adviser on Health Faisal Malik, Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman, principal secretaries to the governor and chief minister and other senior officials were present on the occasion.

The governor exhorted the elected representatives and concerned officials to ensure liaison with the people and use the best of their abilities for resolving their problems and providing them due facilities.

He and the chief minister told the participants that people should get facilities nearer to their houses. They directed them to ensure that staff in various departments were present and equipment in use were kept in working order.

Dr Ibad and Dr Arbab also issued directives for better sanitary conditions in hospitals and effective working of basic health centres. They also ordered appointment of specialists in district hospitals. They pointed out that health and education were basic priorities of the government which was spending more funds in these sectors as compared to previous years. Further improvement, they said, was being brought about in the budget.

While reviewing the law and order, the governor and chief minister directed the authorities concerned to take the required measures to ensure safety and security of people and their property without accepting any pressure or influence.

They told the officials that action should be taken for eliminating street crimes, besides terrorist activities.

The steps taken for a smooth flow of vehicular traffic were also reviewed at the meetings. Directives were issued to make the steps more effective. Effective implementation of relevant rules and regulations was most important element in improving traffic system.—APP
