PPP wants speedy NAB probes against PTI leaders

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party has demanded of National Accountability Bureau to expedite the inquiries into the mega projects initiated during the five-year tenure of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa so that the people involved in corruption could be arrested before the July 25 general elections.

Speaking at a press conference at his residence here on Monday, former PPP provincial president Syed Zahir Ali Shah claimed that billions of rupees had been embezzled in the mega projects like billion-tree tsunami, Bus Rapid Transit, and the NAB had started probing the schemes but the process of inquiries was very slow.

Flanked by Senator Rubina Khalid, Zulfiqar Afghani, former MPAs Nighat Orakzai, Ziaullah Afridi and other senior activists, Mr Shah said that PTI had done nothing for welfare of the people. He said the PTI government had ruined the roads of Peshawar by initiating the BRT.

He said PTI chief Imran Khan had always criticised the metro bus projects in Punjab but his own party’s government also initiated the BRT which proved that PTI people had no capacity to start any project on their own except to copy others.

The PPP leader claimed that if NAB seriously started inquiries into the projects then many of PTI leaders would have to go behind the bars.
