KARACHI, June 2: Five ships carrying containers and steel cargo are due to arrive at the outer anchorage on Friday, according to KPT sources. Berthing activity at the wharves gathered momentum as port agencies tried to clear the backlog owing to steady arrivals during the last couple of days.

Nine ships, Caper Ferro, Lykes Racer, Sagamore, Hyundai Sprinter, YM Fortune, to unload and load containers, Thor Traveller to unload and load general cargo, Asphalt Merchant, to unload bitumen, Johar to unload crude oil and Bunga Melatidua to offload palm oil were berthed after the departure of four.

The ships, which departed included Hyundai Sprinter, APL Dalian, Corn Thaikos, and Thor Traveller, while YM Fortune, Sea Ranger, Cape Ferro, Sagamore, CMA CGM Karibu, Bunga Melatidua, Iran Kordestan, Astor and APL Orchid are due to sail out on Friday.

Cargo handling activity at the wharves was maintained on the higher side as the total tonnage rose to 0.102m tons comprising 11,849 tons of export cargo and 89,896 tons of import cargo including 60,899 tons of oils.

The following ships are due on Friday; Harmony, Wan hai-265, Elbe Oldendroff and Global Princess, with containers and Wise King, with 13,396 tons of steel cargo.
