Candidates briefed on ECP code of conduct

RAWALPINDI: A total of 160 candidates attended an event at the district courts organised by the district administration and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to inform them of the elections code of conduct on Monday.

There are a total of 253 candidates running for the district’s seven National Assembly and 15 provincial assembly, but many did not attend the event. Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Hanif Abbasi sent representatives in their place, claiming they were busy campaigning.

At the district courts, deputy commissioner Dr Umer Jehangir, city police officer Abbas Ahsan and other senior officials briefed the candidates on the code of conduct and handed over copies.

Candidates were told they could not display firearms during rallies, public meetings or corner meetings. They would also need permission from the district administration three days before holding a public meeting and inform the administration of rallies. Candidates and parties are not allowed to set up camps within 400 yards of polling stations or transport voters from their homes to polling stations.
