Postings, transfers of officers worry ANP

PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party has expressed reservations over posting and transfers of officers by the caretaker government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and urged the Election Commission of Pakistan to take notice of alleged violations of its poll code of conduct.

A statement issued here on Wednesday said that the party’s central general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain, through a letter brought violations of code of conduct to the notice of Chief Election Commissioner Justice retired Sardar Mohammad Raza.

Mr Iftikhar said the caretaker setup had been ignoring ‘pre-poll rigging’ in the province. He said senior officers posted by the previous government had been transferred from one district to another that would make the process doubtful.

He said the ECP’s code of conduct was being openly violated and likeminded officers appointed by the previous government were planning massive rigging in the election.

He said the officers who were enjoying political backing should be made officers on special duty instead of transferring them.

In his letter, the ANP general secretary proposed that the caretaker government should copy the Punjab government’s model and appoint all OSDs on administrative posts to make the electoral process transparent.
