LARKANA, May 31: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said the local bodies’ election will be held in July and advised people to vote for candidates who can serve them without any discrimination. Speaking at different gatherings in Kandhkot on Monday night, he said the government was making efforts to resolve people’s problems at the grass-roots level and provide them with facilities of education, health, communication, water supply, drainage, gas and electricity.

He maintained that the government would complete its tenure up to 2007 and added that under the rules, one more year could also be extended to the tenure.

The chief minister justified creation of new districts, saying this had been done in the interest of people.

He claimed that law and order situation had improved in Kandhkot and operations against outlaws in border areas had been successful. He said police posts along side the border were being established.

He announced constituting a committee, comprising DIGPs of Larkana and Sukkur, for recruiting educated youth in the border force. He appreciated efforts of the Kashmore police for recovery of two children in Sadiqabad.

Dr Rahim announced Rs50 million for development of the Kashmore district, upgrading the Kandhkot Taluka Hospital to a district hospital, provision of an ambulance and a fire brigade and upgrading the Girls’ High School to a degree college.

He said he would recommend to the federal government construction of a boat bridge on the River Indus to connect Kandhkot with Ghotki.

He announced a grant of Rs100,000 for the press club and Rs200,000 for special people of Kandhkot.

Inaugurating gas supply to the Ghauspur village and surrounding villages, the chief minister said Sindh and Balochistan were rich in natural resources and exploration of oil and gas would bring about development and prosperity in the area.

He praised MNA Sardar Saleem Jan Mazari for his efforts in getting a project of Rs50 million sanctioned for providing gas to Ghauspur, Mir Waheed Bux Bijarani, Dari, Mujahidabad and Shiran Bhahio villages.

He also announced to open an information technology centre and upgrade the High Secondary School, Tangwani, to a degree college. He said gas facility would soon be provided to the Dara Sarki village.
