PESHAWAR, May 31: Peshawar District Council has asked the provincial government to take up the issue of recognition of the Jinnah Medical College to save the future of about 150 students. A committee of the council in a report about the Jinnah Medical College, Peshawar, presented at a session of the district council here on Tuesday, urged the provincial government to take up the recognition issue at a proper forum.

The report said the government, the district council and the college’s administration should together solve the problem.

The committee’s report, however, expressed satisfaction over the facilities being given to the students.

Dr Iqbal Khalil expressed concern over the college admitting students without getting recognition from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

The college, he said, was not authorized to enrol students until the PMDC granted recognition.

Some members of the council also asked the government to lift ban on mutation of land in Larama, Pakha Ghulam, Khalisa and adjacent areas.

They said that the ban had been placed because the government needed land for Ring Road. Now, the survey of the road had been completed, and there was no justification for keeping the ban in place, they said.

Some other members, however, opposed the lifting of the ban and said it should remain in place till completion of the road.

CCBs : A committee that probed allegations of corruption in the schemes approved by the Citizens’ Community Boards (CCBs) had sent its recommendations to the district nazim.

The report, a member of the committee said, had pinpointed irregularities in the CCB’s schemes, for which cheques worth Rs500,000 had been issued allegedly without fulfilling legal formalities.

The report has recommended disciplinary action against the officials allegedly involved in embezzlement.
