Nisar-Sharif spat ends with relationship in tatters

Chaudhry Nisar has finally parted ways with the Sharif biradraan over differences that have festered for more than a year.

Differences between Nisar, the then minister for interior, and Nawaz Sharif had first emerged when the former objected to Nawaz's decision to write to the chief justice of Pakistan asking him to constitute a judicial commission on the Panama Papers leaks to prove the alleged corruption of the Sharif family in attaining their offshore companies.

Nisar later opposed Nawaz's decision to travel to Lahore after his disqualification by the Supreme Court in the form of a rally through G.T. Road.

Nisar — an 'establishment man' to some — has insisted throughout that the PML-N should not have confronted the judiciary and the military establishment in the way it has post Panamagate.

He seems to have paid the price for not relenting on that contrarian stance, especially as the PML-N escalated its narrative of disenfranchisement by undemocratic forces and required all party leaders to fall in line behind Nawaz Sharif.

More on Nisar here.
