PESHAWAR, May 29: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday asked the government to give up its pro-US stance as the Ummah was against the United States because of its anti-Muslim polices. Talking to newsmen here after attending the Nizam-i-Taleem Conference at Jinnah Park, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that state institutions were involved in sectarian violence in the country.

He rejected the government’s claim of eliminating terrorists from the country.

The MMA general-secretary said that the world witnessed a change after 9/11 and without any investigation the US held Afghanistan responsible for it and attacked the sovereign Muslim state. The US then attacked Iraq and the desecration of Holy Quran reflected the US nefarious designs against Muslims.

The opposition leader said that if Ulema did not play their due role in South and North Waziristan agencies, then the situation in Pakistan would not be different than that of Iraq.

He alleged that government functionaries brought foreign fighters to the Federally-Administered Tribal Areas for Jihad against the former USSR. At that time they were considered Jihadis and at present they were labelled as terrorists, he said.

He said the situation in Afghanistan had changed and the Afghans were able to run the country smoothly therefore there was no need of foreign forces in that country.
