KARACHI, May 29: Adviser to the CM on Local Government Wasim Akhtar on Sunday got the development work at the Daman-i-Koh project site stopped. The project, stretched over an area of 42 acres, is being executed by the city government in North Nazimabad’s hilly tracks.

Mr Akhtar told Dawn that he, along with the KWSB Managing Director, Brig Iftikhar Haider and the city government’s district officer (parks), visited the site near Pahar Ganj and was astonished to see that the a reservoir, from where the adjacent localities were being supplied water until recently, had been destroyed to facilitate the development work.

According to him, residents of the locality complained that in its bid to develop the park, the city government had dismantled the reservoir.

“The city government seems bent upon developing the park at the cost of a water supply facility meant for the people of localities of Pahar Ganj, Hussain D’Silva Town, etc.,” he remarked, adding that he had directed the KWSB to immediately restore the reservoir by carrying out necessary repair work.

Reacting to the adviser’s move, a spokesman for the city government said that City Nazim Niamatullah Khan had termed the action ‘an act of state terrorism against the city government and vowed to protest against the issue at all forums.
