NEW DELHI, May 29: Police said on Sunday that they had defused six bombs placed outside the gates of the state secretariat in the state of Gujarat. The home-made bombs were found outside the complex which houses the state legislative assembly and government offices, including that of Chief Minister Narendra Modi, said the Press Trust of India.

“A bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot and managed to defuse the explosives. A preliminary probe shows it appears to be an intention to create panic,” a police official said. Mr Modi, who has been accused by opposition and rights groups of complicity in the killing of around 2,000 Muslims in 2002, is on the hit-lists of several groups. —AFP
