AWP to contest poll from select constituencies

LAHORE: The Awami Workers Party, a grouping of three left-wing outfits formed in 2012, has announced taking part in the July 25 poll from select constituencies across the country.

AWP spokesperson Farooq Tariq says the constituencies the party will select for contesting the polls are those where it has already made its roots through supporting various movements like for residents of katchi abadis, peasants, etc.

He says the party will base its election campaign around the principles and policies enshrined in its manifesto which includes creation of a just economic system based on progressive economic and fiscal policies that benefit everyone rather than a tiny elite, separation of religion from state power, achieving economic, legal, social and political equality for women and gender-based minorities.

He says it also promises overhauling of the education system to ensure a free, universal public education system, creation of an inclusive, multi-national Pakistani identity through a genuinely federal, democratised and decentralised state.
