Election 2018: nomination papers collection begins

BAHAWALPUR: A large number of candidates collected nomination forms on Monday from returning officer for NA-170 and PP-245 and PP-246 in the city.

Prominent among them included Tahseen Nawaz Gardezi and Sumera Malik (Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf), Syed Irfan Gardezi, Syed Asim Abbasi and Safdar Shehbaz (PPP), Baleeghur Rehman and Iqbal Channar (PML-N) and Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar (Jamaat-i-Islami) and Munawar Hayat Abbasi.

Former MPA Dr Waseem Akhtar announced contesting for both NA-170 and PP-246 on the Muttahihdda Majlis-i-Amal ticket.

Also, several candidates collected papers for NA-171 to 174. The district has five NA and 10 PP seats.

DEMOS: The two rival groups from Cholistan demonstrated against and for the allotment of land in Cholistan.

One group alleged that the land allotment was not being done in a transparent manner as lucky draw for the land allocation was flawed.

The members of the other group raised slogans to continue the allotment, saying that the poor people were being given their genuine right.

According to Cholistan Development Authority (CDA) officials, the opponents of the allotment were most of those, whose applicants either had been rejected or were under process.

The CDA is carrying on lucky draw under a programme to allot land to over 15,000 Cholistani people, who were declared eligible after a thorough scrutiny by the different agencies during the previous years.

DENGUE: Aisha (22) was tested positive for dengue virus and was admitted to the intensive care unit of the emergency ward of the Bahawal Victoria Hospital on Monday.

According to doctors, Aisha is from Dilawar Colony, Bahawalpur. She was serving as staff nurse at the Jinnah Hospital, Karachi, from where she came to the city.

SECURITY: Strict measures will be taken on Yaoum-e-Ali, according to police authorities.

Up to 340 police personnel with other law-enforcing agencies would be deployed at different sensitive places for the maintenance and of law and order and the passage of processions in this respect.
