Mirzas’ popularity spurs PPP leadership into action

BADIN: In the aftermath of a big power show by the Mirzas on Tuesday in Badin, senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and MNA Faryal Talpur has reportedly directed local PPP leaders as well as newly appointed coordinator Gul Mohammad Jakhrani to step up efforts to turn people away from supporting the Mirzas.

She directed them to devise new plans to contact notables in every ward and village to garner their support for the PPP so that the party candidates might not face tough time during the forthcoming elections, especially after the increasing popularity of Dr Zulfikar Ali Mirza and his spouse Dr Fehmida Mirza.

Sources told Dawn on Thursday that Ms Talpur also summoned some key leaders in Karachi to plan a future strategy so that they could defeat the Mirzas during the elections.

They also claimed that some leaders had already informed the party about the tough situation in the district and requested the top leadership to nominate persons from the family of former president Asif Ali Zardari to contest the forthcoming election against Dr Fehmida Mirza on NA-230, comprising Badin, Golarchi and some union councils of Tando Bago talukas.
